The Good Soil | Colossians Series 2

I’ve seen some plants grow with only water,
their roots adrift behind the glass.
It’s possible, and that plant may stay alive,
nourished and growing with proper, careful care.

But I’ve never seen a tree grow up
in only water, weathering storms,
offering shade, or bearing fruit.
Be mindful of the soil gripping all

in its steadfast, hidden grasp.
If indeed the growth is to keep—
stable, steadfast, without shifting—
look to the soil, that Earth might

reach up to Heaven. Be mindful
of roots. Look to the soil.
