The Good Fisherman | Colossians Series 4
The hooks are in the water,
baited with a little truth,
promising a special knowledge,
a honeyed apple in your grasp.
Many hooks, in every current,
each with promises grander than last,
each with a god cast in your image,
each with a poison and empty deceit.
He baits no hook but baits a net.
The bait is bitter, the net is dark,
but the fisherman is good.
He devours none, but feeds.
He fishes by net to carry
to cleaner waters, purer ponds.
Storms and pollutions come still
for a time, but His waters are full,
are enough, will sustain
the fragile, small fish through
all deaths into life, and life full,
life abundant, life heaped up on life.
Accept the darksome death
of his tight-woven net.
No hooks cannot deliver.
They drag down to dark,
not up to light.
His net is dark but His light wins out.
