Gather at the Water | Luke 22
Love is more than posturing,
though it does have a posture.
Love is more than flirting,
though it does have a fragrance.
Love is more than affection,
though it does have emotion.
Love is service and sacrifice,
taking on the weight of another.
Love is service and sacrifice,
sweeping floors and waking early.
Love is service and sacrifice,
following up and checking in.
Service begins with attending.
Sacrifice begins with a breaking.
The foot-washing
There is a hope in darkness hid.
On the floor a father kneels.
A son’s feet are washed.
On the floor a daughter kneels.
A grandmother’s feet are washed.
Young girls. Young boys.
Old men. Old women.
Rich and poor alike.
Widowed and newlywed.
Tradesman and lawyer.
Priest and doctor.
Friend and stranger.
Come and kneel.
Come and wash.
Come and be served.
Come and serve.
He shows us how.
